Warning: fsockopen() Explained

If you are gtting an error like this;

Warning: fsockopen() [function.fsockopen]: unable to connect to *********:**** (Connection timed out) in /home/****/public_html/sources/action_public/BouncyBootlegsMods/BouncyRadioCenter/Ultra/radiostats_functions.php on line 50

Then here are some causes and solutions.

  1. Your website is hosted with cheap hosting providers who use budget servers not supporting the latest technology.
    Solution: Move your website to a decent hosting provider such as BouncyServers which fully support the latest internet technology, the Sockets extension to PHP has ben around for years and thre is no reason why your current provider should not support this function.
  2. The connection between your website and your radio servr is being blocked or slowed down by a firewall.
    Solution: Contact your websites hosting provider and ask them to allow traffic on your radio port number and 1 port above for your website, for example, if your radio uses port 8000 you will need both port 8000 and 8001 unblocked and traffic being allowed on both ports. If your hosting provider will not allow you to do this, move your forum / website to a different hosting provider such as Bouncyservers who fully support streaming media and the SHOUTCast protocol.
  3. You have incorrectly entered your radio information ino the radio center settings.
    Solution: Please ensure that the host name does NOT include http:// or www. at the start, for example bouncyservers.co.uk is a valid hostname where as http://bouncyservers.co.uk and www.bouncyservers.co.uk are NOT valid.
    Solution 2: Please check your radio server is online by visiting http://HOSTNAME:PORT

We have many support tickets asking about this error, usually its down to people using cheap low cost hosting and unfortunatly is out of our control. Any websites hosted on Bouncyservers should never se this error unless ther radio server is offline.
